Policy

(Approved by the Board of Park Commissioners.)

Purpose:

The purpose of the Sponsorship Policy is to allow Metro Parks Tacoma (MPT) to actively seek and engage in sponsorships in order to develop an alternative revenue stream and further expand community outreach.

Definitions:

Sponsorship – receiving financial support and/or goods or services in exchange for specified benefits.

Policy Requirements:

Section I.

MPT will seek and engage in sponsorships with those individuals, businesses, foundations and other entities that are consistent with and appropriate to the vision, mission and core values of MPT.

Section II.

A signed agreement will be made to outline the relationship between the two parties.

Section III.

All sponsorship agreements shall include minimum core terms as outlined in the Sponsorship Agreement Checklist.

Section IV.

Sponsorship funding should be aligned with or greater than the Asset Valuation and Inventory unless approved by the Executive Director or his/her designee.

Section V.

Department Directors will be accountable for review and approval of their respective sponsorship proposals and agreements for MPT and its supporting non-profits, evaluating each agreement with educated and informed criteria.  District-wide Community and Mission Level sponsorship agreements will be authorized by the Executive Director.

Section VI.

Availability of exclusive sponsorship rights will be negotiated and determined on a case by case basis.

Section VII.

The style of recognizing sponsors shall be consistent with MPT’s standards, brand style guide and the historical nature and character of each park or facility.

Section VIII.

Recognition or other benefits shall not suggest that MPT endorses the sponsor’s goods or services.

Section IX.

In keeping with Policy 000.004 (Naming Parks, Recreation Areas, Facilities and Features), Section VI., if an individual, business, organization or foundation of which a facility, or any portion thereof, has been named, comes into disrepute in relation to MPT or in the community at large, the use of the name may be discontinued as authorized by the Executive Director or his/her designee.

Section X.

There are no inherent privileges resulting from a sponsorship outside of the sponsorship agreement.

Section XI.

A Risk Assessment Checklist must be completed to determine Insurance requirements.
