Agents of Discovery

Agents of Discovery mobile app motivates kids to explore outdoors!

Perfect for families looking to spend time outdoors, Agents of Discovery is a free, educational app to get youth active, engaged and learning about the world around them.

Challenges (or questions) are geo-triggered as participants walk the trail. The game is free to download and once downloaded does not require any data or WiFi to play. Download Agents of Discovery at Google Play or the App Store.

You can play all seven Missions in Tacoma and earn a different digital badge for each one. Start collecting your badges today! Missions change seasonally so the fun can continue year-round.

Current Tacoma Missions can be found at these parks: Dickman Mill – Ruston Way, Lincoln Park, Native Plant Garden at Point Defiance, Oak Tree Park, Tacoma Nature Center, Titlow Park and Wapato Park. Open the tab for each individual Mission below to learn more about each park.

You can play all Tacoma Missions in English, Spanish or Korean! Just choose the language when you open the app.

Special Earth Day Missions

Join Agent Earth to play special Earth Day Missions at Wright Park and Tacoma Nature Center. These Special Missions are only available through April 27. Get your special prize inside the W. W. Seymour Conservatory or the Nature Center during regular open hours. Play both Missions to earn a special prize pack.

Dickman Mill - Ruston Way

Join Agent Gull to discover new and exciting facts about the former Dickman Mill site on Ruston Way and the Puget Sound. You might see seals and waterfowl, and you will certainly get to learn about the history of this place. Located at 2423 Ruston Way along the Commencement Bay waterfront, Dickman Mill Park opened in July 2001.

Lincoln Park

red-tailed hawk_agentsofdiscoveryVisit Lincoln Park and help Agent Red-tailed Hawk uncover the interesting history of this special place as well as discovering some of the plants and animals found there. Located at 801 S 37th St, this park was established in 1889, Situated near Lincoln High School, this park is home to a significant tree collection similar in character to Wright Park. Lincoln Park is 10.41 acres.

Native Plant Garden at Point Defiance

Come down to the Northwest Native Plant Garden this spring and see what’s in bloom! Help Agent Anna’s Hummingbird learn about our local plants and animals in the scenic wooded garden. This hidden gem of a garden is found in Point Defiance Park, just past the zoo at 5400 North Pearl Street.

Oak Tree Park

Visit Oak Tree Park and help Agent Stellar’s Jay explore this special place and some of the plants and animals found there. Located at 7633 S Montgomery Street, this park is a 25-acre parcel that features one of the last remnants of the Garry Oak habitat that used to dominate this part of the city.

Tacoma Nature Center

The Tacoma Nature Center has long been a hub of environmental education in Tacoma. You can take an easy walk on the lower loop trail and “Sense the Spring” with Agent Raven as you learn more about this nature preserve and who lives there. Located at 1919 S Tyler Street, this Urban Nature Preserve is home to over 75 species of wildlife that might be found along the 2.5 miles of trails.

Titlow Park

SeaOtter_agentsofdiscoveryExplore Titlow Park with Agent River Otter and look at all the ways the community is working to keep the park healthy for wildlife and visitors. Located at 8425 6th Avenue, Titlow Park is 75 acres. Begin your Mission near the Lodge.

Wapato Park

You can enjoy Wapato Park year-round! Wapato Park lies in a beautiful setting of lake and forest. Features include a walking trail around the lake (.9 miles), a playground, a dog park, picnic shelters, and an impressive, historic pergola. Follow the trail around the lake and discover the challenges to learn more about the human and natural history of Wapato Park with Agent Great Blue Heron. Located at 6500 S Sheridan Ave, you cn begin your Mission at any point along the lake trail.

Tips for Playing Missions

  • Download the app and the Mission you want to play while you are at home or anywhere with wifi. Then you will not need to use any data while visiting the park.
  • You can turn on the text to speech feature by going into Settings in the app. There is a Play/Stop button which will appear on the corner of every dialog box which will allow you to mute the audio if needed.
  • This same Settings screen allows you to change the unit of measure and turn on the power saver mode.
  • Use the Diagnostics button on the Settings screen to confirm whether or not your phone supports components of the game or are disabled.
