Community Center Maintenance Closures 2025

People’s Center closing temporarily for annual maintenance March 17-21

From March 17-21, People’s Community Center will temporarily close for routine annual maintenance. All areas of the building will be off limits to the public except for the Senior Hub and adjoining restrooms, which will operate from 8 am-2 pm daily. During these hours the lobby will be staffed and accessible. All other building uses will be on hold during the maintenance week.

While the center is closed the public is encouraged to visit one of Parks Tacoma’s other community centers to workout, use the gym or swimming pool, and more. Amenities vary by location. Visit ParksTacoma.gov/communitycenters to view schedules, amenities and information.

The following is a list of planned maintenance to be completed at People’s Center during the closure. Project timelines may change if additional issues are discovered during work:

• Updates to plumbing and flooring in the locker rooms
• Deep clean of pool, deck and accessories
• Updated lighting and electrical outlets throughout the center
• Refresh paint
• Replace ceiling tiles
• Clean carpets

In 2025 all four community centers will close for one week to address maintenance needs.

The closures will reduce the need for one-off closures for emergent issues and lessen the impact on center users by allowing staff to complete a large number of maintenance tasks during the 5-day closure period.

Planned maintenance closure dates for each center are:

• People’s Center: March 17-21
• Star Center: June 9-15
• Eastside Community Center: August 25-29
• Center at Norpoint: Sept 22-26
