Celebrate diversity at Tacoma Pride Events July 9-11 and help eliminate prejudice in our community. Parks Tacoma recognizes that one of our greatest strengths is the diversity of our community. We stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community and commit to working towards advancements for full acceptance and equality for all.
July 9 – Rainbow Center Outdoor Movie in the Park
July 10 –Tacoma Pride Festival
July 10-11 – Pride Celebration at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium
July 10-11 – Pride Celebration at Northwest Trek Wildlife Park
A PROCLAMATION IN HONOR OF LGBTQ+ PRIDE MONTH
WHEREAS, Parks Tacoma recognizes that one of our greatest strengths is the diversity of our community; and
WHEREAS, the contributions that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and allied (LGBTQ+) communities have made and continue to make internationally, nationally and in Tacoma are greatly valued and appreciated; and
WHEREAS, Parks Tacoma stands in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community and commits to work towards advancements for full acceptance and equality for all; and
WHEREAS, we appreciate Rainbow Center’s leadership and advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community, and will continue to work in partnership with Rainbow Center to develop programs that support and celebrate our LGBTQ+ communities; and
WHEREAS, LGBTQ+ Tacomans invite all to join them in July for the annual Tacoma Pride Festival to celebrate the history and culture of the LGBTQ+ community and gain greater appreciation for the differences that enrich us all;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Park Commissioners, hereby recognizes and honors the month of July 2021 as LGBTQ+ Pride Month in Tacoma. We encourage all Tacomans to eliminate prejudice where it exists and celebrate our diversity by joining us in this special observance of our LGBTQ+ friends and neighbors.
The foregoing proclamation was adopted by the Board of Park Commissioners of the Metropolitan Park District of Tacoma at a regularly scheduled meeting held on June 28, 2021.
