The Clerk's House at Fort Nisqually will be replaced, providing additional space for staff and volunteers.

Project Overview

Built in 1935, this project will demolish the existing structure and build a new Clerk's House at Fort Nisqually. The proposed replacement is modeled on the 19th century Hudson Bay Company’s Montgomery House, the original Fort Nisqually structure that the Clerk’s House was modeled after in the 1930s. The scope of work includes demolition of the existing Clerk's House and historically accurate reconstruction of a 2,750 sq. ft. building based on the the 19th century Montgomery House. Additional site work includes site grading, drainage, stormwater, and site restoration. The work is not expected to impact visitors' access to the Fort's other buildings or amenities, although we anticipate some noise during construction. The finished building will provide valuable space for administrative tasks to better support Fort volunteers and staff, including sewing and restoring period clothing, storage, and more.
