Park Stewards are community members who lead volunteer restoration activities in a forested park, wetland, or other natural area, helping to bring together volunteers, materials, technical knowledge, and other resources to make on-the-ground restoration a reality.
- Serve as key contact person for work parties at your designated site
- Coordinate volunteer restoration events and activities at your site
- Submit timely event and material requests, sign-in sheets, and work logs
- Coordinate with Park Volunteer staff to develop annual site restoration and planting plans
- Attend at least one annual training event
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Passion for outdoor activities and the environment
- Able to work under physically demanding conditions, including cold and wet weather
- Willing to attend at least one training event per year
- Willing to coordinate and lead at least 4 volunteer events per year or log 20 hours working alone (events can range from 3 friends or family members getting together to larger work parties with many community volunteers)
- Able to organize and manage diverse activities and set priorities
- Able to develop a positive working relationship with staff, volunteers, and community supporters
- Dependable, shows good judgment, models appropriate conduct
Support Stewards are over community members at least 16 years of age who support Park Stewards with volunteer restoration activities in a forested park, wetland, or other natural area, helping to bring together volunteers, materials, technical knowledge, and other resources to make on-the-ground restoration a reality.
- Engage in restoration activities such as removing invasive species, planting native plants, mulching, and watering
- Follow safety instructions provided by event leads
- Interact with staff, other volunteers, and the public in a professional and courteous manner
- Be prompt and reliable, dress appropriately, and maintain open lines of communication with staff and event leads
- Take initiative when appropriate, but consult staff or event leads when needed
