Memorial Bench Program, $6,000

Memorials are in the form of plaques placed on park benches throughout the district. Parks Tacoma will consider placing a new bench with a plaque in a location that does not currently have a bench, replacing an aged bench with a new bench and plaque, or putting a plaque on a new existing bench.

Different benches are used in different parks. The reason for this is each park comes to life with aesthetics unique to that specific park, layout and purpose. This has been thoughtfully assessed and designed in accordance with the park’s master plan.

The life of a park bench is approximately 10 years. However, if the bench is moved, stolen, broken, or otherwise rendered unsafe for continued use, the bench may be disposed of when it reaches the end of its useful life (as determined by Parks Tacoma). Parks Tacoma’s Parks and Recreation department and TPF will make every effort to notify the donor at the time the bench is determined unusable to allow them to adopt the park bench again in the same location or have the plaque returned to them.

Each year, Parks Tacoma employees are able to elect to contribute to the foundation(s) of their choice.
