What to Expect at Tacoma Summer Blast

Fireworks Show

Fireworks at Dune

The City of Tacoma fireworks show presented by Tacoma Venues & Events will launch from a barge about 3,000 feet offshore from Cummings Park, maximizing prime visibility from most parks along the Ruston Way Waterfront, from Dune Peninsula Park in the north to Jack Hyde Park in the south.

  • The fireworks display will take place once it is dark (approx 10 pm). It will be visible along all of Ruston Way
  • A designated ADA viewing area can be found on the horseshoe pier of Cummings Park

Beer Gardens

Tacoma Summer Blast features two beer gardens, open to ages 21 and older only:

  • Dune Peninsula: 12-10 p.m. Hosted by the Redefining You Foundation. Enjoy a refreshing beverage near the Dune stage.
  • Point Ruston: 12-10 p.m. Hosted by Farrelli’s Pizza and located along the water walk on the Explore & Discover mural.

Kids Zone

Kids Zone at Cummings Park

Entertainment created especially for kids will be bursting from the Kids Zone at Cummings Park all day long!

  • Burn off energy with a bounce house, soccer, basketball and other interactive games.
  • Cool off with ice cream and get creative with make-and-take crafts like sand art and spin painting or serenade your friends and family at the karaoke booth!
  • A special toddler-only area will also be available this year featuring a bounce house and slide for our littlest guests.

Live Music

Concert at Dune

Live music will be available throughout the day at Dune Peninsula.

3:00-4:00 p.m.| Wesley Garman
4:30-5:30 p.m.| Emily McVicker
6:00-7:00 p.m.| Bonita Fishwife
7:30-8:30 p.m.| Annie J
9:00-10:00 p.m. | Annie J

DJ Mike Illvester will be playing music starting at 1:30 p.m. and in-between sets.

Wesley Garman has been a shameless performer for as long as he has possessed theory of mind. Writing his own novelty songs and performing covers in his spare time, and working professionally as a traveling music teacher for middle, elementary and preschoolers, he has had no impetus to grow up. You can contact him at SeattleMusicMan.com to have him teach or perform at your school!
Emily McVicker is a one woman show of a variety of styles and performance. With a bit of live-looping, beatboxing, theatrical flare, and heartfelt delivery, this quirky musical lady will have you bobbing your head and singing along ~ Great for all ages!

Bonita Fishwife, formerly Drea & the Marilyns, is an indie band from Seattle, WA. They are sad songs you can dance to. You can expect their new album on August 1st.

Annie J delivers a close and personal blend of retro soul and modern pop. Her band is made up of Seattle heavy weights, RL Heyer, David Dawda, Brad Gibson, Peter Daniel and Charles Wicklander, making for a playful and moving display that pays homage to 60's funk and soul with a modern twist.
