FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
-
Can I view the concert from a boat, kayak, or paddleboard?
-
Dune Peninsula Park was constructed as part of the EPA’s remediation of the old Asarco smelter. This project included the installation of a cap to seal off polluted soil and laying rocks to support the hillside and create a dedicated marine wildlife habitat along the north shore.
With the popularity of the new Dune Peninsula concert series boats have begun anchoring in this area to enjoy the show. Unfortunately, this poses a high risk of damage to the marine habitat and weakening the foundation of the hillside over time.
Parks Tacoma strongly discourages boaters from congregating in that area, whether during concerts or any other time, both to avoid damages to the habitat and foundation and because the rocky conditions prohibit safe anchoring. Paddleboarders and kayakers are also discouraged from gathering in the area for safety reasons and to avoid impacts to the shore and hillside.
-
Will Dune Peninsula and its restrooms be closed to the public?
-
Dune Peninsula, including the restrooms and parking area, will be closed to the non-concert-attending public on the day of each concert. The Water Walk will remain open to pedestrians up to the southern-most sail mound.
A portion of the parking lot and a section of Dune Peninsula will be closed to the public on the day prior to and after each concert for set-up and tear-down of the concert. Access to restrooms may be limited at times and will close earlier than normal on the night prior, likely around 7 pm, and will not reopen until around 10 am on the day following each concert.
We ask the public to please adhere to all posted area closed signage that will be located in areas where production activities are actively occurring.
-
Where are the nearest public restrooms outside the concert venue?
-
The nearest restrooms outside the venue are located by the playground at Point Ruston, next to the Ferry dock, and near the pond at the entrance to Point Defiance Park.
Concert ticket holders have access to restrooms on Dune Peninsula during the event.
