Summer Late Nights

Middle and high school students will have a free place to get dinner and hang out with friends every weeknight this summer.

Starting June 23, 2025,  Summer Late Nights opens across Tacoma, with schools, community centers and non-profit organizations opening their doors to keep teens safe and engaged. Middle and high school students can get dinner every night and participate in open gym, art and music activities, and hang out with friends.

This is a drop-in program and students can attend as often as they like. Parents/guardians are encouraged to pre-register their child on the Compass/Family App.

These locations are open to middle and high school students:

  • Al Davies Boys & Girls Club – 1620 S 17th St
  • Baker Middle School – 8001 South J St
  • Boys & Girls Club Milgard Family Eastside Branch – 1721 E 56th St
  • Giaudrone Middle School – 4902 S Alaska St
  • Mason Middle School – 3901 N 28th St
  • Meeker Middle School – 4402 Nassau Ave NE
  • Pearl Street Family YMCA (formerly known as Morgan Family YMCA) – 1002 S Pearl St
  • Stewart Middle School – 5010 Pacific Ave
  • Henry T. Schatz Boys & Girls Club – 3875 S 66th St
  • Truman Middle School – 5801 N 35th St

 

Locations are not assigned but it is preferable for teens to attend at the site nearest to their school.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Is pre-registration required?

No, but it is recommended. Students who have pre-registered will have a speedier entry into their location staff will have less paperwork to do upon their arrival.

Is ID required for admission to Summer Late Nights?

School ID or official government ID that shows date of birth is required for drop-in participants and for those who don’t attend Tacoma Public Schools.

Those who have pre-registered do not need it.

What grade can a student be in to attend Summer Late Nights?

The grades refer to the year they are finishing right now.

  • Finishing Grades 6, 7, 8 = middle school
  • Finishing Grades 9, 10, 11 = high school

Do students have to arrive at 5 pm or can they arrive anytime?

Students can arrive anytime between 5 – 8 pm.

Can students get picked up before 10 pm?

Yes, students can get picked up anytime.

Will the program run on July 4th?

No, the program will not run on Friday, July 4.

What time will dinner be served?

Dinner is tentatively planned for Middle School at 6 pm, High School at 7 pm but the times may be adjusted as needed on a site-by-site basis.

Can parents sit with their kids during dinner (knowing that only kids under age 18 can consume the food)?

No, Parents are not allowed at the program.

How do middle school and high school students attend together?

Middle and high school students will have staff specifically designated to each age group. As much as possible the programming at each location will be set up in a way so the two age groups do not co-mingle. For example, dinners are at different times, and the groups will use different areas of the building at different times.

Can youth leave the Late Night locations without an adult?

Yes, they will be allowed to leave on their own.

There are no in-and-out privileges so once a person leaves they cannot go back in.

Is this program only for students attending Tacoma Public Schools?

Regular weeknight programming is open to students who do not attend Tacoma Public Schools but they must show official government ID that shows their date of birth.

Field Trips are only open to Tacoma Public School students.
