Facility Rental Contract

The Pavilion is available for picnics, small parties and meetings. Rental customers have use of indoor and outdoor spaces include a deck overlooking the lake. There is no kitchen but there is a sink, counter space and electricity available upstairs. There is no heat in the building.

Pavilion History

The Wapato Park Pavilion was constructed in the late 1930s by the Works Progress Administration (WPA).

In February of 2005 the building sustained significant damage in a suspected arson fire. It was rebuilt consistent with the Master Plan for Wapato Park which eliminated the original bathhouse function but restored the building for use by summertime rental groups.

Pavilion Accessibility

Wapato Pavilion Accessibility (rating 4)

  • Parking: Accessible parking exists and provides a reasonable crushed gravel route to the shelter.
  • Route: Route is crushed gravel, some sloped areas exceed 5%, and there may be natural tread disruptions.
  • Tables: Tables are placed by the user to provide own seating arrangements. Transition from ground into pavilion is level.
  • Amenities: Most amenities are in reach range; approach determined by room set up.
  • Restrooms: Internal and external restrooms provided and marked accessible; restrooms are on accessible route.

Please be advised, your facility rental is for the pavilion only.

The rental client and Parks Tacoma cannot reserve parking spaces or restrict other people’s activities in the park nearby unless the activities are illegal. Our parks are open for public use and your experience may include:

  • Various forms of wildlife.
  • Loud music or park patrons.
  • Dogs running off-leash and/or dogs excessively barking.
  • People enjoying the park in close proximity to your rental space.

Picnic Shelter Rental Terms & Cancelation Policy

Terms

Reservations are taken up to 12 months in advance. The minimum 4 hour rental fee is required at the time of reservation if made more than 90 days in advance of event date. If rental is booked within 90 days of event, all fees are due at time of booking.  Decorating/set-up and clean-up must be completed within the contracted rental time. All events are required to dismiss by midnight.

Any additional event related fees must be paid, along with banquet permit (if serving alcohol), is required at least 90 days prior to the scheduled event.

Signed rental paperwork is due within 2 weeks of booking.

Cancelations

Cancelation requests received 90 days, or more, prior to the contracted facility rental date will receive a 100% refund of fees paid, less a cancelation fee. For cancelation requests received 60-89 days prior to the contracted facility rental date, minimum facility rental fees will be retained. All fees paid above that amount will be refunded.  No refunds are given for cancelations within 60 days of the rental date or due to inclement weather conditions.

Date Change

Changes to contracted event date will be accommodated up to 90 days before your contracted event date, when possible, based on facility/staff availability and will be subject to a change fee. Date changes requested less than 90 days prior to your event will be considered on a case-by-case basis and additional fees may apply.  Time changes will be accommodated on a case-by-case basis and may be subject to change fee.

All changes and cancelations must be made in writing.
